Convera has added four senior executives to its leadership roster, naming a chief technology officer, chief operating officer, chief information officer and chief product officer. All appointments take effect immediately.

Mike Cahill joins as executive vice president and chief operating officer. He will lead the combined product, technology and operations organization. Cahill entered the pay-tech firm in June as interim chief product and technology officer after serving as chief technology officer at Early Warning, the company behind Zelle, and holding senior roles at PayPal, Boku and American Express.

Jon Southall arrives as senior vice president and chief technology officer. Southall previously worked with Cahill at Boku and PayPal and brings additional experience from Salesforce. His mandate focuses on strengthening Convera’s infrastructure.

Chris Steinig is appointed chief information officer, marking the only internal promotion among the new hires. He began his career at Microsoft, moved to Travelex Global Business Payments in 2007, and stayed through its acquisition by Western Union, later rising to head of engineering and vice president of technology and enterprise within Convera.

Allen’s résumé includes product leadership at EY, Capgemini, Blackbaud, Shopify, Ampla, and a stint as global senior vice president of product at Ticketmaster, as well as service on Codat’s product advisory board.

The company, formerly known as Western Union Business Solutions, rebranded as Convera in 2021 following a $910 million acquisition by Goldfinch Partners and The Baupost Group.

Convera operates as a business-to-business payments platform, enabling cross-border transactions in more than 200 countries and territories and supporting 140 currencies.

The influx of leaders with deep fintech and enterprise experience suggests the firm is positioning itself to handle increasing demand for multi-currency and foreign-exchange risk services, areas that have grown as global trade expands.

Steinig’s promotion shows continuity within the technology function, while the other three executives bring external perspectives that could accelerate product and operational scaling.

The refreshed executive team will oversee product development, technological architecture and day-to-day operations, aiming to expand Convera’s cross-border payment and FX risk-management capabilities for corporate clients.
