Morrisons launches pet and travel insurance

Morrisons has partnered with broker Hood Group to launch pet and travel insurance, marking the supermarket chain’s first move into financial services. The new products are sold under the Morrisons brand and backed by A-rated insurers, with a digital purchasing experience built on Hood Group’s platform.
Three levels of pet cover, with 24/7 vet help
The pet insurance offers three tiers of lifetime cover, underwritten by Burns and Wilcox Global Solutions on behalf of Accredited Insurance UK. Each tier provides different annual vet fee limits: £2,500, £5,000 or £10,000. The insurer pays the vet directly when claims are submitted.
A 24/7 pet health assist line gives policyholders access to qualified UK-based vet nurses and vets online or over the phone. The policy also covers pre-existing conditions, as long as the pet has not received treatment for them in the past two years.
Travel insurance includes gadget cover as standard
Morrisons travel insurance is underwritten by Axa and comes in three tiers designed for different budgets. When purchased directly from Morrisons, the policy includes gadget cover as standard — a feature that often costs extra with other providers.

Supermarkets have long sold insurance to strengthen customer loyalty and generate recurring income. Morrisons is entering that market through pet and travel, a narrower focus than the car or home policies offered by many of its competitors. That choice aligns with the retailer’s existing customer base: people who already buy pet food and holiday supplies at the store.
Bruce Reid, commercial director at Hood Group, said his company built the digital journey and integrated the underwriting. “By combining our deep underwriting and distribution expertise with best in class digital capability, we have created a proposition that is simple, accessible and genuinely valuable for customers,” he said. “We’re proud to support Morrisons in entering the insurance market with a high quality, scalable offering.”
Jamie Winter, director of procurement at Morrisons, said the retailer rewards policyholders through its More Card program. “With the launch of Morrisons Insurance, we’re giving customers access to trusted pet and travel cover while rewarding them through our popular More Card with points and exclusive discounts,” Winter said. “With a simple click of a button, customers can purchase their policy from our trusted and regulated partners and enjoy the rewards that come with it.”
It has confirmed it is continuing to explore additional products and features to add to its insurance lineup in partnership with Hood Group. No timeline or specific products have been announced yet.
